Standard Metrics has long served as a centralized storage hub for the many portfolio documents that our VC/PE customers track and analyze, such as quarterly financial documents, board decks, and cap tables. We also provide AI-driven data parsing to clean and standardize the data found in those documents, as well as a variety of tools to derive insights from that data (from our in-app AI Analyst and Embedded BI offering to easy exportability via tools like our hosted MCP or Excel Add-In).
However, after portfolio monitoring provider Aumni announced it would be shutting down its services completely on March 2026, we had an influx of inbound conversations. These prospects liked what we were offering around parsing and analysis for data found in their documents, but also wanted to have more functionality within the document hub itself.
We moved quickly to meet the market need, and we’re excited to announce the launch of a variety of upgrades to our document storage system, aimed at making storing, reviewing, and retrieving documents cleaner, easier, and more robust.
What we launched
Our new document storage system makes it significantly easier for our customers to organize, filter, and group the many documents that they use and store on Standard Metrics. Core updates include:
- Standardized document types: Define documents from a dropdown of options (such as Balance Sheets or Board Decks) for quick identification and consistent alignment across the firm.
- Custom labels: Track the nuances you care about with your own labels and label groups. (For example, use custom labels to create an “Audit Status” label group with custom labels “Audited” and “Unaudited.”)
- Filtering by type and label: Filter down to only the documents you care about.
- Search: Find any document by name via a quick lookup in our new search bar.
Other changes include pagination in the document library for quicker load times and easier navigation, color-coded label groups for easy visualization, and a dedicated “Documents” tab in Settings for a central place for firms to create, edit, and organize their labels.
What’s next?
We’re not done yet. Our next focus is making the document upload process quicker for our customers via multiple-document bulk assignments of labels and types, as well as building out automatic system detection and assignment of document types (so firms simply have to upload their documents and we do the rest). We’ll also be updating our public API so users retrieving, reading, creating, and downloading document files via the API will be able to see and assign these new labels and types.
If you’re a current Standard Metrics customer, we’d love to know how the changes are working for you. If you’re not yet a customer but are looking to learn more, fill out the form below and we’d love to get in touch.
